About Us

History

Benson Hospital is located on Duport Road, Paynesville, in the “Commonwealth Health District “of Montserrado County.  It started as a felt-need Community Clinic in 1994.  It grew into a Hospital in 2002 meeting all the Ministry of Health’s Hospital criteria.  The Hospital was managed as a field Hospital by Medicenes Sans Frontiers (MSF) during the civil conflict in Liberia providing Medical and Obstetrics services free of charge from 2003 to 2010.  When MSF phased out, it was turned back to the Benson family and we have been supporting it without any Government subsidy from 2010 to date.

Services we offer:

Outpatient Services for Liberia endemic diseases of Malaria, diarrhea, ARI, Typhoid and Intestinal parasites.  It provides antenatal care, normal deliveries, perinatal and post-natal care, child care, immunization services, health education, general surgery services and gynecological surgery.  For the rebrand agenda, we would like to improve the Laboratory services, include neonatal services, include adolescent services, outreach nutrition services, telemedicine and e-Record keeping.

In the Commonwealth Health Districts, there are 3 Hospitals, 10 health centers and 85 clinics. One of the 3 Hospitals in the District is a Faith-based Hospital – the ELWA Hospital which offers integrated services at affordable Fees for –Service.  It is heavily supported by the Samaritan Purse; while the other is a Psychiatric Hospital and is a teaching hospital and Benson Health is the 3rd Hospital in the District and is basically a Community –based hospital catering to the vulnerable and low socio-economic members of the Community, leaving no one behind in the strive for health equity and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
